 The trekking activities in Salta open an enormous range of possibilities. From short walks of little difficulty in the vicinity of Salta, until quite technical circuits, several days'duration and transit areas where the air is scarce, which adds an important share of difficulty. HIGH MOUNTAIN: The northern Argentina offers mountainous cords ideal for the practice of climbing all year, with land and climatic diversity of different heights, both for fans and for professionals, and with different levels of difficulty. At its territory, Salta offers little more than ten peaks with heights exceeding 6,000 meters above sea level and much greater heights of summits over the 5,000 meters, many of them near the Salta City. Some of these summits have sanctuaries in the top of the Inca period. The most famous: Volcán Llullaillaco, Nevado de Cachi, Nevado de Chañi, Nevado de Castilla, Nevado de Acay, Cerro Chuscha y el Bayo, among others.
To plan an adventure into the area of high mountains is higly recommended the months of August and December to avoid the increased intensity of snowfall, wind and cold. The average duration of an expedition can vary, according to the summits and their distances between two days and two weeks, setting as a starting point and return to Salta Capital. More Info
