The province of Salta is located in the Northwest of Argentina, and covers an area of 154,775 square kilometers, which accounts for 4% of the national territory.
The capital of the province bears the same name, and is divided into 23 departments with political and administrative powers.
It borders with three countries: Chile, Bolivia and Paraguay.
It borders with six Argentine provinces: Jujuy, Tucumán, Catamarca, Santiago del Estero, Chaco and Formosa.

Its geography is very diverse, from the West is changing the emphasis from an area of high altitude and high peaks of almost 7000 meters above sea level, where there eastward valleys, ravines and hills smaller.
Inside one of the many valleys, located at 1180 meters above sea level is located the city of Salta. This large valley is called Valle de Lerma, in honor of the founder of the City.
