Birds in El Rey National Park
This National Park is one of the protected areas with greater variety of fauna, product of good conservation status of the different environments fitogeográficos.

The fauna of this park, like its flora, is not exclusively yungueño, but includes species of forest chaqueño.

Since the larger birds, like the Condor (Andean condor), carrion bird that inhabits the most remote heights of the landscape, until small and escurridizos Picaflores, King found a huge variety of birds, both in terms of size as color, habitat and food preferences. They are easier to spot, and also to detect through their songs because they are vertebrates more numerous. If we take into account only the national parks of the Yungas, the El Rey National Park is the second in terms of richness of birds.

Of the 291 bird species present in the National Park, two found only in protecting King: Inambú Serrano (Nothoprocta pentlandii) and Doradito olivacea (Pseudolopteryx acutipennis). It is also interesting to appropriate that has only been seen nesting in the park some 12 species of total sighted there. Maybe this means the Park is providing them real protection because they find the conditions necessary for reproduction.

The species of birds of King that are threatened are as follows: Duck Crestudo (Sarkidiornis melonotos), the lone eagle (Harpyhaliaetus solitarius), the crowned eagle (Crowned Solitary Eagle), the eagle widow (Spizastur melanoleucus), the falcon peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), the big black hawk (Falco deiroleucus) and the Owl cinnamon (Aegolius harrisii), the latter quite rare and difficult to spot.

Among the hummingbirds, we can quote the white belly picaflor (Amazilia chionogaster), picaflor yungueño (Adelomyia melanogenys), compared to picaflor blue (Eriocnemis glaucopoides), the comet picaflor (Sappho sparganura) and the dwarf picaflor (Microstilbon burmeisteri), five species covered only in parks yungueño.

The existence of a rich hydrographic network and a lagoon, allows this park is living in a wide variety of waterfowl, among which, besides the aforementioned duck crestudo, we find ducks Barcino (speckled teal) and cutirí (Brazilian Duck ), Among many others. Residents of Laguna de La Gallareta are Patitos the girl (Fulica leucoptera), the blue Pollon (Porphyrula Martin), La Gallareta red shield (Fulica rufifrons), painted Pollon (Gallinula melanops) and Mac common (Rollandia rolland).

For the aforementioned peculiarity of hosting both components of the jungle as Yungas forest chaqueño, species diversity is extended to those that inhabit this biome: for example, the red-legged chuño (Cariama cristata) and black-legged (Chunga burmeisteri). They are robust birds, about 70 cm high, roads and low flying, ash colour. The red-legged is striking not only because the color of your legs is identical to its peak, but also because it has eyelids celestial. Both species are carnivorous: reptiles, amphibians and small mammals are part of their diet. It is not uncommon to hear his strong singing at dawn and at dusk. It's easy to see them near the Intendant of the park, like the turkey mount policy (Penelope obscura), a little bird flying and gregarious habits.

It stands out, among many others, two birds of beautiful colors that inhabit forests queñoa, alder and pine hills: the king of the forest and monterita reddish eyebrow.
